Quest’anno per la prima volta, gli Emmy, che sono tra i premi più importanti riguardanti il mondo delle serie TV americane e ogni anno vengono assegnati in base alle varie categorie, come gli Oscar, ai nominati durante una cerimonia che si tiene al Microsoft Theatre di Los Angeles, andranno in scena virtualmente, con i candidati che resteranno a casa a causa delle restrizioni dovute alla pandemia di Coronavirus.
Stephanie Elam della CNN ha anticipato che saranno trasmessi il 20 settembre e saranno presentati su ABC da Jimmy Kimmel, conduttore e produttore esecutivo del Jimmy Kimmel Live!, un talk show serale in onda su ABC dal 2003. In Italia saranno trasmessi da Rai 4 in diretta TV nella notte tra domenica e lunedì, più precisamente all’1,45 di lunedì 21 settembre. La maratona sarà visibile anche in streaming collegandosi al canale tramite l’app di Rai Play e si potrà vedere anche in replica il lunedì successivo in seconda serata sempre su Rai 4.
Nella nuova versione tutta virtuale, Kimmel indosserà tute ignifughe per distribuire i premi, che in alcuni casi verranno consegnati di persona ai diretti interessati.
Per i premiati invece al posto dello smoking formale sono previsti abiti neri stile ‘sacco della spazzatura’, creati e disegnati dalla costumista Katja Cahill, che di solito veste i presentatori agli Academy Awards, con la consulenza del produttore esecutivo Guy Carrington, pluripremiato specialista di eventi televisivi dal vivo che si è rapidamente fatto un nome come uno dei produttori dal vivo più creativi e meticolosi sul mercato.
Tra i gossip che circolano c’è quello che racconta che Meryl Streep agli Emmy potrebbe indossare il suo pigiama da letto. La sua stilista, Micaela Erlanger, ha detto a Women’s Wear Daily che il “comfort virtuale” è nella mente di tutti, suggerendo che la 71enne candidata come migliore attrice non protagonista in una serie drammatica per “Big Little Lies” potrebbe seguire l’esempio. “Penso che vedremo un sacco di pigiami fantasia”, ha detto sorridendo.
